Link roundup

1. Microscale Lego X-Wing. Here's the parts list.

2. Tentacle girl cake.

3. Jim Romanesko's new site is active and he wrote a long post about the ugly drama surrounding his leaving his old site (which I've been reading faithfully since I discovered the internet). The bit that stands out:
I was told that traffic to my page had dropped about 30% in 18 months. It was easy to explain why: I was one of the few journalism town criers on the Internet a decade ago; now every news junkie with a Facebook page and Twitter feed is shouting out stories about the news business.
Also, he made a six figure salary on his site.

4. Andy Suriano's new comic book comes with a free sketch.

Portal 2, DLC will be free

Portal 2 came out not too long ago, but Valve has already announced that they're releasing DLC (downloadable content) for the game. Now, it has been revealed that the DLC will be free - and they didn't specify a console, so I'm guessing that means it's free on PC, PS3 and 360.

I'm surprised, because Valve usually only gives it away for free on PC and has to charge on the 360 to cover costs of releasing on the platform; however, this time they have released a game on all three platforms, two of which have Steam - allowing for instant updates through their own systems and cross-platform play between PS3 and PC.

Portal 2, Comic, Lab Rat

Portal 2 now has a comic called Lab Rat. It features Chell, Companion Cube and some other guy that told Chell something important in Portal: the Cake is a Lie! The comic is awesome and I really think that any fan of Portal (and any fan of comics in general!) should check it out!

Portal 2, seven or two hours until release

Currently, Portal 2's release is set at about 7 hours from now; however, each time we complete one of the games from the Potato Sack, the time adjusts and we get closer by about an hour. So, if we complete the four games that are left, then we will unlock Portal 2 in about 2 hours. It's up to everyone to help out.

I really want to play this game, but I don't know how much this ARG thing is actually working...

"We're out of beta. We're releasing on time." the words of GlaDos. She was right... just on time. On the release date! Not early at all :(

Portal 2, early release is staged and all lies

Portal 2 is being released 'early' according to the viral marketing campaign, but are they really? GlaDos has finally started using the potatoes which are supposed to overclock the 'CPUS' which are being unlocked around the clock. However, some are wondering if it's all staged.

According to the people who are working around the clock to get the early release of Portal 2, the game can release NO EARLIER THAN TUESDAY AT MIDNIGHT in some places. What was Valve thinking? you might have asked; well, Valve may have been trying to be like GlaDos.

  • GlaDos promised Chell there would be a cake at the end of Portal, but there was no cake - the cake is a lie.
  • Valve promised fans there would be an early release at the end of the ARG, but there is no early release - the early release is a lie.

It is all a lie, according to those who believe the theory; I smell lawsuits and investigations coming!

Here is GlaDos' Log so far:

08:57 - Default boot scheduled to finish in 19:23:01
08:58 - Activating emergency distributed computing grid...
09:00 - GLaDOS@home starting...
09:01 - Recruiting cpus to force faster boot sequence...
19:55 - Calculations complete for The Wonderful End of the World. Recalculating a new launch projection...
11:55 - Calculations complete for 1... 2... 3... Kick It!. Recalculating a new launch projection...
21:00 - Calculations complete for AaaaaAAaaaAAAaaAAAAaAAAAA!!! - A Reckless Disregard for Gravity. Recalculating a new launch projection...
04:00 - Calculations complete for RUSH. Recalculating a new launch projection...
10:15 - Calculations complete for Cogs. Recalculating a new launch projection...
15:35 - Calculations complete for Toki Tori. Recalculating a new launch projection...
20:20 - Calculations complete for BIT.TRIP BEAT. Recalculating a new launch projection...
10:50 - Engaging starch-based power cells
11:00 - Reboot safety test protocol initiated...
11:00 - Relaxation chamber locks released...
11:00 - Involuntary hazard mitigation associates have assumed testing positions...
11:00 - Pre-release lethality assessment initiated...

So, it looks to me that this is all fixed. They SOMEHOW unlocked at EXACTLY 11:00, which seems a little suspicious. It seems that Valve has fixed the whole thing to unlock only at a specific time! What was Valve thinking? Only time may tell.

Will we get an early release? Not according to GlaDos, so far!

The Sims Medieval, tv commercial

The Sims Medieval is a whole new game in the Sims series; no, it's not another expansion to the Sims 3 or any other Sims game. It is all on its own in the world, hopefully there to create a whole new piece of the Sims series, with its own expansions and everything.

I scoured the internet for this trailer after I saw it on television earlier, because I found it hilarious and ironic (which probably caused the hilarity). Anyway, go ahead and watch this awesome looking new game's trailer!

Gears of War 3 Beta maps: part 2

Here is the second part of the beta maps for Gears of War; these will tell you two more of the maps that will be coming in the beta soon:

Trashball:

There is a humongous scoreboard here that you can shoot and knock down; it will damage any nearby enemies or friendlies!

Trenches:

This is a wide open map which is good for sniping; players standing still for too long may find themselves easy prey for the people on higher ground.
